PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The car manufacturer Renault announced on Monday that its global sales had fallen by 4.5% last year, in a market still penalized by the health crisis and shortages of electronic components.
In 2021, Renault sold a total of 2,696,401 vehicles, compared to 2,822,326 in 2020, a decrease of 4.5%, in a relatively stable comparable market. These worldwide sales concern passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles of all the brands of the group, including Renault, Dacia, Alpine, Lada and AvtoVAZ.
Of this total, sales of the Renault brand fell by 5.3%, to 1,693,609 units last year, despite the strengthening of its position in the European market for electrified vehicles.
The E-Tech range of the diamond brand, combining its electric and hybrid engines, represented 30% of its unit sales of passenger cars on the Old Continent in 2021, compared to a share of 17% in 2020. In Europe, the brand Renault was in third place in the electric vehicle market last year, thanks to its ZOE model, ranked number two in sales.
Dacia’s global sales, on the other hand, rose by 3.1% last year, to 537,095 units, driven by the successful renewal of its range. The dynamic sales of the new generations of Sandero and Duster enabled Dacia to climb the European podium for the first time in sales to private customers, with a market share of 6.2% over the past year as a whole .
The Renault group also indicated that its order portfolio in Europe had doubled in 2021 compared to 2020, to amount to more than three months of sales. This portfolio is supported by the attractiveness of the Renault E-Tech offer, commercial vehicles, the 100% electric Dacia Sandero and Dacia Spring models, while stocks have fallen by an estimated 30% between 2020 and 2021.
Renault has also confirmed that it complied with the level of polluting emissions imposed by the European Commission last year. The CAFE regulation (for “Corporate Average Fuel Economy”) required European car manufacturers to respect, on average, an emission level less than or equal to 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer in 2021 for 100% of their vehicle fleet.
