Renault: in a good position on the electric passenger car market


(Boursier.com) — In 2022, the brand’s global sales Renault amounted to 1,466,729 units, including 832,605 in Europe and 634,124 internationally. In a context of supply constraints, registrations of the Renault brand fell by -9.4% compared to 2021.

However, Renault becomes the 3rd electrified brand in the Passenger Vehicles (PC) market with more than 228,000 vehicles sold (+12% vs 2021). In line with its ambitions to achieve the greenest mix on the European market by 2025, with more than 65% electrified vehicles in the sales mix, Renault is increasing its share of electrified sales by +9 pts compared to 2021 The e-Tech range (electric and hybrid) now represents 39% of Renault passenger car sales in Europe in 2022, while the market average is around 31%.

Mégane E-Tech electric has been completing the electric car offer in Europe since the second half of 2022 and immediately became one of the most popular electric cars on the retail market with 33,000 sales. Most sales relate to the high versions with 450 km of autonomy and OpenR Link, powered by Google. In 2023, Renault will launch Mégane E-Tech electric outside of Europe.

Full hybrid technology is booming with 117,000 units, i.e. +64% compared to 2021. This technology, highly sought after by private customers, reaches a mix of 30% on Clio, 31% on Captur, 65% on sales from Arkana and is already the most requested version of Nouvel Austral. In 2022, Renault is the 2nd brand in Europe for sales of hybrid vehicles.

Renault has achieved its sales target to individuals, with more than one in two sales to this target. The retail sales mix increased by 8 points vs. 2021 to reach 51%, i.e. +7 points vs. the market average. As a result, the market share of retail sales improved by +0.3 pt compared to 2021 to reach 6.1% in Europe.

Growth in the C segment is accelerating. Renault sales increased by 21% with more than 200,000 registrations. Arkana’s success continues, with already more than 80,000 sales in 2022 (doubling of sales vs 2021 with 41,800 units).

On the European light commercial vehicle market, Renault reached 2nd position with a stable market share of 14.4%. In 2022, Renault completed its LCV range with New Kangoo E-Tech electric and New Master E-Tech electric to meet customer expectations and in line with its electrification ambitions.

Outside Europe, Renault is making progress in its key markets. Sales volumes amounted to 634,124 units and were stable compared to 2021. The share of sales outside Europe reached 43.2% of the brand’s total sales.
