Renault-Nissan: in secret, they were working on a new 100% electric brand

Renault and Nissan could join forces to create a new 100% electric brand which would then see the light of day next year.

RENAULT VISION – SIZE 4-3

Things are moving quite a bit on the Renault side at the moment, and in particular since the announcement last year of the vast Renaulution plan for the future. A new direction for the firm headed by Luca de Meo, which wishes in particular to focus on its electrification, while it plans to become a zero-emission manufacturer from 2030. For this, it is counting in particular on the launch of several models , including the Renault 5 Electric.

A few days ago, the brand confirmed its desire to separate its thermal and electrical activities, by creating two very distinct subsidiaries. The goal ? Work in particular on the development of future trendy models, but also on their marketing. But it would seem that the diamond firm would like to go even further than that, as suggested by the American press agency Reuters, which points out that Luca de Meo is preparing to go to Japan.

Launch in 2023

A trip not necessarily unusual, when we know that Renault is still associated with Nissan as part of an Alliance created in 1999. According to a close source, the boss of the diamond brand will leave for Tokyo to participate in a meeting of the council of the Alliance, as well as to the general assembly of Nissan. And all this would not really be innocent according to Reuters.

Indeed, this trip will notably aim to convince the Japanese brand to embark on the creation of a brand new brand with Renault. An idea already announced last April, without any details being revealed. Now it is back on the table, while this new entity could see the light of day next year, with an IPO as soon as it is launched.

A 100% electric manufacturer

According to initial information, this new brand, whose name remains unknown, should focus solely on the production of 100% electric models. It will then allow the Renault-Nissan Alliance to accelerate the transition to zero-emissions, while the European Union wants to ban the sale of thermal cars in 2035. The decision on the creation of this brand would be taken in July.

Renault and Nissan would not be the first to create a brand new brand dedicated to electric. We are thinking in particular of Ford, which has also created an entity specializing in clean vehicles, called Model E, while Volkswagen will revive Scout in the United States. It will also specialize in the production of trendy models.
