Renault plans to become a 100% electric brand in 2030 – DG

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The chief executive of carmaker Renault, Luca de Meo, announced on Thursday that his eponymous brand has set a goal of selling only electric vehicles in Europe from 2030.

The group is preparing so that by this horizon “the Renault brand will be 100% electric” on this continent, he declared during a press conference. “It’s a bold bet but it goes in the direction of history,” he added. This choice should also allow the group to achieve the decarbonization objectives imposed by the regulators, explained the manager.

The Renault brand previously aimed for a mix of 90% electrified vehicles, therefore also including hybrid vehicles, in Europe in 2030.

Luca de Meo, however, acknowledged that the slow development of infrastructure, such as charging stations, could “hinder this development”. The managing director added that this ambition would also depend on the “purchasing power” of households, an electric car costing more than a thermal one.
