Renault has a very specific objective in mind: to remain the French leader in electric cars. This requires, among other things, regular innovations. That’s good, the French manufacturer has just unveiled its brand new battery charger project. This will be equipped with V2G technology, which will allow it to power other devices on the same network.
Renault knows it, it is imperative to constantly come up with new ideas and innovations to stay in the race in the electric car sector. To do this, the manufacturer does not hesitate to multiply partnerships, such as the recent merger with Google which aims to develop the connected car of tomorrow. But Renault intends to optimize its chances by seeking expertise everywhere.
It is thus that the French firm reveals in a press release a new project carried out jointly with the Commissariat for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies (CEA). This project will take the form of an electric car charger, much more technologically advanced than those currently offered by the brand. Indeed, it will be equipped with V2G technology.
Renault presents the charger of the future for its electric cars
As a reminder, V2G technology (for Vehicle to Grid) is a two-way charging technology. In other words, the equipped charger is capable of returning the energy stored by the electric car to the network – in addition to being able to recharge the battery of said car, of course. The interest is also on the side of energy saving, since Renault claims to have reduced losses by 30% during charging thanks, among other things, to V2G.

However, the manufacturer will not be the initiator of this technology on the automotive market, since some of its competitors, such as Kia and Hyundai, have already integrated it into their vehicles. It is therefore a question of catching up with a certain delay for Renault, which could harm it if it is not quickly corrected. Especially since its Korean rivals have other trains in advance, such as the 800V recharge which is still missing on the side of the diamond brand.
