Renault’s new car highlights its respect for the environment. And this, right down to its infotainment system.

You will not have missed this: the R5 is back, and it is now powered by electricity. Its manufacturer pulled out all the stops to present it to us, and we must admit that the images and promises are beautiful.

Renault has surrounded itself with choice partners to design the vehicle and meet the specifications, so this is a good opportunity to look at one of them, and by any one.

A navigator that is one with the car

The most informed among you may have noticed a small detail when watching the R5 presentation video: it uses Vivaldi. Indeed, for a few seconds, we can see the icon of the Norwegian web browser appear on the car’s OpenR Link system interface. This is not exceptional since the latter is also present on other vehicles of the brand, such as the Mégane E-Tech and vehicles in the Austral range, since 2022.

Did you see it, to the left of the Waze icon? Yes, it’s Vivaldi’s © Renault

Vivaldi will not be limited to browsing websites such as Clubic. Thanks to it, Renault customers will be able to access a note-taking and screenshot tool, but also streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+. The French manufacturer and the Norwegian publisher have even thought out their partnership well, since the car will refuse access to such sites when the R5 is in motion, all for security reasons.

Music that we hear more and more

Some will point out that we could have had the same service with any other web browser. After all, Vivaldi is not the only one that emphasizes privacy and offers synchronization of history or tabs between different devices, all with excellent performance.

Service comparisons

In fact, if Renault decided to turn to him, it is partly to go even further in its commitments. The French company wants to demonstrate greater ecological virtue, just like its Norwegian partner. By turning its back on cryptocurrencies, but also on artificial intelligence, the publisher wants to be like “ an attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers “.

The approach in any case seems convincing, because beyond current and future Renault models, Vivaldi has found a place of choice in Polestar’s infotainment systems, and not only that. The navigator was also selected by Mercedes and Audi, proof that we are surely dealing with a first-rate European product.

A hyper-connected geek and keen on podcasts, I'm always reading or listening to news of all kinds. Between history, tech, politics, music, video games and popular science: all the news (or almost all) arouses my curiosity. Otherwise, I like rock and lofi, game nights that are always too long, good films and guys.
