Renault recycles the Scenic in an electric version and we saw what it looks like

27 years after the launch of the first Scenic and ahead of its marketing, Renault is presenting its future electric Scenic at the 2023 Lyon motor show. A single watchword: sustainable development.

It was in Lyon, where the 2023 motor show is being held, that we were able to discover the electric version of an emblematic model of Renault. Big star of the diamond brand stand, the new Scenic, now bearing the suffix E-Tech Electric, must embody Renault’s plunge into the era of sustainable development. But, did you know, initially Scenic is the acronym for “Safety Concept Embodied in a New Innovative Car”? In other words, what leaves us today with the somewhat sepia image of a cheesy minivan was intended to be an avant-garde car. For its 27th anniversary, the one that was one of the first compact MPVs on the market is calling this precept into play, by offering it in an eco-responsible way.

Recycled and recyclable

For starters, the Renault Scenic E-Tech will be made from a total of 24% recycled materials and is designed to be at least 90% recyclable. Of course and as its name suggests, it will only be offered in 100% electric versions, with mainly two motor-battery combinations. The first will associate a 60 kWh battery with a 125 kW motor (i.e. 167 horsepower), while the second will be offered with an 87 kWh battery and a 160 kW motor (or 220 horsepower). We imagine that the Esprit Alpine signature, which will be available for the first time on an electric vehicle, will be associated with this engine. The maximum range announced for the large battery version is 620 km.

Augmented Megane

Inside, if the dashboard is modeled on that of the Mégane E-Tech, the layout will be a little different. In the rear, in particular, passengers will benefit from two real seats and, between them, a “smart armrest” (literally intelligent armrest) which, once deployed, will allow you to place your screens, recharge your devices, etc. On the other hand, those who appreciated the legendary modularity of the Scenic will have to make do with a fixed bench seat. A disadvantage which, according to Renault, is compensated by a wheelbase of 2.78 m which should leave room for both passengers and their luggage. The trunk actually claims an appreciable volume of 545 liters.

On the interface side, Renault renews theOpen R-Link of the Mégane, by advancing more than 50 applications (planning, leisure, multimedia, etc.). The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric will be manufactured in France, at the Renault factory in Douai, and launched in 2025. The price range has not yet been revealed.
