TOKYO/PARIS (Reuters) – Renault and Nissan are confident that a definitive agreement on the renewal of their alliance will soon be reached, the two automakers said in a statement to Reuters on Friday, which have so far been aiming for a joint venture. here at the end of March.
“The two companies are currently working closely together towards the signing of all definitive agreements. They are confident that this signing will take place soon,” it says.
The Jiji news agency had reported earlier today that the final conclusion of the new alliance agreement between Renault and Nissan could be postponed until April or even later, due to longer than expected discussions on intellectual property and electric vehicles in particular.
The two manufacturers, members of a partnership founded more than twenty years ago, presented at the beginning of February the outlines of a new alliance for the next fifteen years, based on a more balanced and freer relationship but also on increased mutualisation. in new areas and in certain regions of the world.
The agreement, whose presentation had been anticipated for a time in early December, was finally unveiled two months later after long weeks of negotiations. The two groups then indicated that the signing of the final documents should take place by the end of the first quarter.
As part of the overhaul of the alliance, Nissan will also invest up to 15% in Ampère, the future electrical entity of the French group which must eventually be listed on the stock market. Mitsubishi, the third member of the alliance, is considering investing there too.
