Renault wants to reorganize its activities to accelerate in electrical and software

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The car manufacturer Renault announced Thursday that it was studying the creation of two “centers of excellence”, one dedicated to 100% electric vehicles and technologies and the other to engines and transmissions. thermal and hybrid.

In order to support the very strong growth of the electric market, the group is studying the creation in France of a new entity dedicated to electric vehicles and software. “This autonomous entity would have a business model adapted to the specificities of electricity and would aim to forge partnerships in new technologies or services,” Renault said in its press release.

This division would bring together engineering activities, including part of its Technocentre, the production sites of Cléon and the north of France (ElectriCity), as well as the support functions linked to these activities. It would employ more than 10,000 people by 2023.

The second division would bring together thermal and hybrid engine and transmission activities based outside France, namely the plants of Motores (Spain), Seville (Spain), Cacia (Portugal), Bursa (Turkey), Pitesti (Romania), Curitiba ( Brazil), CorMecanica (Chile), PFA (Argentina), as well as associated support and R&D activities.

It would employ an almost equivalent number of employees, i.e. around 10,000 people by 2023.

Renault specified that consultations with employee representative bodies were in progress and that it would provide an update on the progress of these projects during an investor day scheduled for next fall.
