MADRID (Reuters) – Renault plans to increase its production in Spain to 500,000 cars per year, the pre-pandemic level, against 300,000 in 2023, the Spanish newspaper Expansion reported on Thursday, citing a local manager of the group.

The carmaker, which operates a factory in Palencia and another in Valladolid in the northwest of the country, will start producing its Rafale hybrid SUV in Spain, as well as the Espace, Austral, Captur and Symbioz models, José Martin said Vega, responsible for its industrial activities for the Iberian region, quoted by the daily.

“We depend on the market, but we are optimistic, because with five new models we should be able to return to pre-COVID volumes,” he added.

When contacted, a Renault spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
