“Rendezvous in unknown land”: what Slimane had a lot of difficulty managing during filming

These last few months have been particularly emotional for Slimane. The singer revealed in The Voice worked a lot to represent France at Eurovision in early May. His performance impressed the whole world, amazed by the vocal power of the artist who covered an entire passage from his hit Mylove a cappella, far from the microphone. Slimane unfortunately failed to reach the podium, in fourth place.

“The only thing that freaks me out is the jungle, the humidity”

A few months earlier, the singer flew to Guinea-Bissau, more precisely to the Bijagos archipelago, in West Africa, to experience a unique adventure alongside Raphaël Casabianca. This meeting in an unknown land is broadcast this Tuesday evening on France 2. Viewers will discover Slimane in a new light, in the heart of nature, surrounded by the Bijagos, an animist people.

Despite all his good will, the singer had great difficulty adapting to his new environment, which was clearly hostile to him. “I can go anywhere, but the only thing that freaks me out is the jungle, the humidity, the snakes. Really everything I describe when saying that it’s the thing I wouldn’t like, well I fall in and when I arrive, I’m faced with real fears”, he confided to Églantine Éméyé in the second part of the show, where Slimane debriefs his trip. “The humidity level, which is very particular, played a role on this trip and on the way I experience it all because it’s like being in an asthma attack all the time,” added the sidekick of Vitaa who managed to take it upon himself to forge links with the people of the Bijagos, honored to welcome him.

Slimane misses his daughter Esmeralda

Slimane held on thinking of his little daughter Esmeralda, who celebrated her second birthday last January. But missing his child was also very difficult to manage… “It was one of the most complicated things for me,” admitted the singer in an interview shared this Tuesday on France.tv. “It’s the first time I’ve left my daughter for so much time,” he added. The filming of Meeting in unknown land actually lasted two weeks. During his trip, Slimane kept a logbook which he plans to pass on to his daughter as soon as she is old enough to understand it. A very nice proof of love…
