While she was in the Rennes metro, a mother was attacked on Tuesday by an individual who punched her violently and threatened her children with a weapon.
The facts took place at the Villejean-Université station in the morning. The man allegedly first hit the mother in the head, before hitting the two children, aged one and two. He then allegedly exhibited a knife in front of them.
Witnesses to the scene then informed the police, but the individual had already fled when the police arrived. However, he was arrested later in the day in downtown Rennes, according to information from Ouest-France.
The victims were hospitalized but had no serious injuries.
The individual would have “a psychiatric history”, according to statements by the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc to the regional daily. He also indicated that the attacker was placed in police custody and was “hospitalized in a specialized environment, his medical condition not being ultimately compatible with this measure”.
