Reolink Duo 3: the dual-sensor surveillance camera goes to 8K

Reolink renews its Duo camera, which moves to the third generation and benefits from some improvements. We of course find the two optical units which make the range special and allow you to enjoy a wide field of vision without too much distortion, but some changes should be noted inside. And the manufacturer also announces software improvements.

180° field of view, now in 8K

No major changes to the optics this year. The Duo 3 is in any case aligned with the old model with its 180° field of vision. Reolink preferred to concentrate its efforts on image quality, by first increasing the definition.

If the Duo 2 can deliver 4K images, the new model doubles down and promises 8K… or almost. The definition can go up to 7680 x 2160 pixels precisely. We can therefore imagine the integration of new sensors of 8 mpx each, for a final resolution of 16 mpx after assembling their images. Reolink also adds that it has revised the algorithms dedicated to this task, undoubtedly to reduce connection problems, but the manufacturer says no more.

Of course, the Duo 3 is also ready for the night with its infrared vision, and we also find a set of 8 small LED projectors which allow it to film in color even in the dark, as on the previous models .

A new function to track intruders

The detection options are also identical and allow you to be alerted specifically when a person, vehicle or pet appears in front of the camera. But the Duo 3 still goes a little further. A new feature called Motion Track, however, is making its debut, and promises to compile on the same image captures of the individual or the object moving at different positions to retrace its route and allow you to get an idea of ​​it without having to to view an entire recording. A simple glance is enough.

On the storage side, the new model inherits the microSD slot from its predecessors, and as is often the case with Reolink, it is also possible to use an ONVIF recorder. The cloud should also be available, for a fee of course. The camera is finally equipped with a microphone and a speaker to allow you to both hear what is happening in front of the house and respond from your smartphone if necessary.

The Reolink Duo 3 should be available in the coming weeks. For the moment, only a wired version, or PoE for Power over Ethernet, is presented, but it would still be surprising if a battery version, to be connected via Wi-Fi, was not offered.
