repairing a broken window is cheaper, but Apple widens the inequality between France and the United States

Apple has significantly lowered the price of repairs for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but the price in France remains excessive compared to the United States.

There are the new features announced on stage during the conference, and then there are the more discreet changes that we discover as we dig into the Apple site during the launch. This is the case, for example, of the battery capacity of the new generation of iPhone.

Several media like 9to5Mac were pleasantly surprised to see that the cost of repairs in the event of broken glass had dropped significantly in price.

Apple lowers repair prices

Apple allows you to estimate iPhone repair costs directly on its official website. In the United States, replacing the rear window of a iPhone 14 Pro cost $499. This price increases to 169 dollars for the iPhone 15 Pro. The drop is therefore substantial.

We wanted to check the estimated price for the same repairs in France. Unfortunately, the calculations are not correct. Replace the rear window of a iPhone 14 Pro is announced at 739 euros. It’s already much more expensive than in the United States, even including 20% VAT. It’s worse with the iPhone 15 Pro: replacing the rear glass of an iPhone 15 Pro is estimated at 519 euros.

By including a 20% VAT and converting the 169 dollars into euros, the price should come to around 190 euros in France. We can imagine that there are some additional taxes and fees, but it is hard to find what could justify going from 190 euros to 519 euros. It’s all the same 319 euros difference for the same operation.

Hopefully the brand will find solutions to adjust its prices in France. The design of the iPhone 15 Pro has evolved to make rear glass repair easier. We need to be able to see this more easily in the price of repairs.
