Repairing laptops – a sustainable project for the unemployed in Carinthia

The new labor market campaign “LAB – Laptops for Training and Employment” by the Province of Carinthia and the Public Employment Service not only breathes new life into old computers, but also creates training and new job opportunities for the long-term unemployed.

“We come from different professional groups and help each other,” explains Christian Titze, who, together with nine other project participants, is making used laptops usable again: “And if the device can no longer be repaired, we use parts.” This new working model was created by Land Carinthia and AMS Kärnten jointly launched. “This not only creates new perspectives for the project participants, the focus is also on sustainability,” explains labor market officer Gaby Schaunig. EUR 665,000 come from the EU The circular economy project is subsidized by the EU with around EUR 665,000. “The state is contributing 45,000 euros for the purchase of the old laptops,” says Schaunig. Not only the job seekers benefit from the campaign, but also the AMS. “The repaired devices are made available to us for training and education purposes,” explains AMS boss Peter Wedenig, who sees even more opportunities in the campaign: “Many companies are looking for employees with this training.”
