If you’re planning on getting an Apple Watch Ultra, you might want to think about the costs in case of repair…

While yesterday we were measuring the positioning of the Apple Watch Ultra against its competitors, let’s now look at an essential question for this type of device, namely that of repair costs.

Very hefty repair costs for the Apple Watch Ultra

Last Wednesday, and after months of rumors, Apple finally formalized its high-end Apple Watch model. Named “Apple Watch Ultra”, this one is intended above all for athletes. With its titanium bracelet, its bright 49 mm screen and its generally more robust design, apart from its price (799 dollars all the same), this smartwatch has many assets to seduce. However, repairing it in the event of a glitch will unfortunately not be given. Far from there…

Precisely designed for people who practice intensive sport (marathon, climbing, diving, etc.), it is obviously not insignificant to mention the possibility that this watch could break, despite its increased robustness. This is why the teams of MacRumors went to the apple brand’s website to estimate the costs in the event of an accident. This results in much higher costs than for the Apple Watch Series 8, which already amounts to 299 dollars.

For the Apple Watch Ultra, if your screen, or any other part embedded in your connected watch (sensors, buttons, etc.), breaks, the costs could then be around $500. Yes, you read that right. This figure is obviously enough to make you dizzy, given that it represents more than two thirds of the total price of the watch. Similarly, replacing the battery in your Apple Watch Ultra will cost nearly $100. An increase of 20 dollars compared to the Series 8, but which can still be justified by a larger size and autonomy.

AppleCare, more than ever the security solution?

When you purchase a new device, the Cupertino company then offers you “AppleCare +” insurance. This is intended to protect you in the event of material damage. So if you shell out $100 (or $4.99 each month) to insure your Apple Watch Ultra, repairing your watch will only cost you $79. Since this is a device that will be subjected to intensive use, opting for this guarantee can, in this case, make a lot of sense.

You will agree, repairing your Apple Watch Ultra (excluding AppleCare + subscription) will be very expensive. However, The Verge reminds us that due to the miniaturization of the device, repairs are not the easiest either and that they inevitably involve paying the price (even if it means leaving an arm there). Finally, it should be noted that AppleCare+ is obviously in addition to the guarantee that you can benefit from as a consumer when purchasing your products.
