Bayer Leverkusen brings Gerardo Seoane on

Bayer Leverkusen has to find a successor for coach Hannes Wolf, who is only on loan from the DFB. Now there is apparently a solution: The Swiss Gerardo Seoane should train the Werkself. The change should be made official on Wednesday.

According to media reports, Bundesliga soccer team Bayer Leverkusen will introduce Gerardo Seoane from the Swiss club Young Boys Bern as their future coach on Wednesday. The 42-year-old is getting a two-year contract for the new season, “Sport1” and the “Kölner Express” reported on Tuesday evening. There was initially no confirmation for this. Seoane’s contract with Bern actually runs until 2023.

Until the end of the season, Hannes Wolf is still the coach of Leverkusen. He took over the team at the end of March as the successor to Peter Bosz and scored twelve points from seven games. Wolf is on loan from the German Football Association (DFB). The U18 national coach of the association had recently avoided making clear statements about his personal future. After the 1-1 draw against Union on Saturday, he said: “We have found a great level here. I have two wonderful jobs. It’s a luxury situation. We’ll see which one it will end up with.”

Leverkusen recently announced that it would only decide after the season who would train the team in the future. In addition to Seoane, Edin Terzic (Borussia Dortmund), Niko Kovac (AS Monaco) and Oliver Glasner (VfL Wolfsburg) were also traded as candidates. Bayer separated from Bosz in March. The 57-year-old Dutchman had been in office since January 4, 2019. Bayer had only won four of 17 competitive games under Bosz in 2021, slipped from first place to sixth in the Bundesliga from mid-December and was eliminated in the DFB Cup with the fourth division Rot-Weiss Essen and in the Europa League against Young Boys Bern out. The trainer of the opponent from Switzerland was Seoane.
