Science and politics did not work together sufficiently during the corona pandemic.
Researchers drew this conclusion in the synthesis report on the National Research Program “Covid-19” (NFP 78).
The final report published said that the partnership between the scientific community and government institutions was not sufficiently developed to withstand the enormous pressure of a pandemic crisis.
In general, the researchers draw a positive conclusion. However, the research program made a constructive contribution to the scientific understanding of the pandemic in Switzerland, the report said.
Funded with 20 million francs, NRP 78 was launched in April 2020 with the aim of gaining new insights into Covid-19, developing recommendations for clinical management and healthcare, and advancing the development of vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.
