Heavy airstrikes kill two children

Russian airstrikes are said to have killed several people, including two children, in and around Kharkiv. Rockets are also said to have hit three schools and the Assumption Cathedral. Ukraine urges Moscow to cease fire to save civilians
According to local authorities, eight people, including two children, were killed in an air raid in the eastern Ukrainian city of Izyum near Kharkiv. According to the media, a multi-storey residential building was hit during the night attack. The information is not independently verifiable.
Two rockets hit an administration building in the city of Kharkiv. The Assumption Cathedral is said to have suffered damage that is not described in detail. Photos showed a number of framed artworks and other items destroyed by the blasts and a floor covered in broken glass. Nothing was initially known about injuries.
According to the US broadcaster CNN, at least three schools in Ukraine’s second largest city were hit by rockets. Videos and photos on social media also point to this. According to CNN, it has geographically localized the videos and photos and confirmed their authenticity. One of the schools is said to be located in the northern district of Saltivka, the other two a little more than a kilometer apart in the industrial area in the south-east of the city. Classes have been suspended since the beginning of the Russian invasion. It is currently unclear whether there were any injuries or deaths in the attacks.
Ukraine urges Russia to cease fire in Kharkiv and Sumy regions to evacuate civilians. In Korosten, north of the city of Zhytomyr, two people died in an airstrike on a large checkpoint, according to the administration. Five people were injured.
A number of residential complexes, government buildings and residential areas have been damaged by Russian attacks in recent days. The US criticized the fact that Moscow was increasingly attacking civilians.
