Rescue operation – only hands sticking out of the ground

Serious work accident in Palting in the Innviertel: Three people were at least partially buried during construction work next to the road. The worst affected worker (43) was completely covered by soil.

At around 12.45 p.m. the emergency services were informed: A cunette or a wall of a construction pit – in the picture you can see a concrete shaft that is currently being set – had apparently given way. The trigger was that the local water pipe had been dug up or damaged during the construction work . Water escaped, mixed with the soil and the soil gave way. The construction worker, a 43-year-old Slovakian, who was standing in the pit, was completely buried. According to helpers, only his hands were sticking out. The rescue operation, started by colleagues, was successful and the victim was resuscitated on site. The 43-year-old, who was most seriously injured, was taken to the Salzburg State Hospital by rescue helicopter. Two slightly injured people (a 52-year-old from Innviertel and a 41-year-old from Slovak) were taken to the Salzburg accident hospital. The Red Cross crisis intervention team looked after witnesses and work colleagues.
