The 48-year-old Upper Austrian was with a hiking group on the Millstätter Alpe when he suddenly lost his footing.
The hikers were actually equipped with mountain bikes, but could only push them in the impassable terrain at over 2000 meters above sea level. At around 2.30 p.m. the group was at the height of Grünes Törl, where the Upper Austrian suddenly fell: “For reasons currently unknown – but probably due to the wet ground conditions,” the police added. The 48-year-old’s injuries of an unknown degree were treated first by the crew of the emergency medical helicopter “RK1” and he was then taken by helicopter to the Spittal/Drau hospital.
