Reset Apple AirPods (Pro) to factory settings: This is what you have to do

If you have problems with Apple’s AirPods, sometimes only a reset to factory settings can help. We’ll show you how to reset the Bluetooth headphones.

If you often experience connection difficulties or other problems with your Apple AirPods or Apple AirPods Pro, a software update for the headphones usually helps. If this doesn’t lead to the solution you were hoping for, all that’s left is to reset the AirPods to the factory settings and set them up again.

The reset deletes all connections and eliminates errors at the same time. The process is also helpful if you want to resell your headphones or give them to a family member because you have a newer model. In the following instructions we will guide you through the necessary procedure. Your AirPods should then work without any problems again.

Now that the AirPods are unpaired, we will show you below how to reset the headphones to the factory settings.

The AirPods are now reset. The headphones do not automatically connect to your smartphone or tablet, you have to do this manually. In order for them to reconnect automatically, you have to set up the AirPods again.

Newer versions of AirPods can also be linked to an Apple ID. If you want to reset AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generations), you must first remove them from your Apple ID. This is also particularly important if you want to use headphones that were previously used by someone else.

This is how you remove AirPods from an Apple ID

    Make sure the headphones are connected to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth and are within Bluetooth range.

    Open the Find My app and tap Devices.

    Select the device you want to remove, then swipe up on the slider.

    A menu will then open where you select ”Remove this device”. Then tap “Remove” again to confirm.
