The Elysée formalized the reshuffle late Thursday afternoon by recording the entry of eight new members of a government with 41 ministers in total. Among the newcomers are Aurélien Rousseau in Health, Aurore Bergé in Solidarity, Thomas Cazenave in Public Accounts and the mayor of Dunkirk Patrice Vergriete in Housing. Three other members of the government are changing positions: Gabriel Attal for Education, Sarah El Haïry for Biodiversity, and Bérangère Couillard for Gender Equality.
Emmanuel Macron reiterated “with clarity” his “trust” in Élisabeth Borne. The president assured that by appointing Élisabeth Borne to Matignon in May 2022, it was a “strong and not simply symbolic choice” and “respect for a commitment, with a particular meaning for our Nation”. By “clearly reaffirming my confidence in the Prime Minister, she has chosen to propose eight new ministers whom I thank for their commitment and their presence (…) today”, he added.

Macron wants a “full and deep response” to the riots
Emmanuel Macron on Friday wanted a “complete and deep response” to the recent riots, evoking a “risk of fragmentation (and) deep division of the Nation”, during a speech at the opening of the first Council of Ministers of the new government team.
“There is a need for authority, respect and legitimate hope (…) We must learn the lessons of what has happened and provide in-depth responses,” said the head of state, adding that this “will structure the government’s back-to-school work”.
Macron wants to put in place a “demanding framework” for public finances at the start of the school year
