While Emmanuel Macron and Élisabeth Borne are preparing the reshuffle of the government, the President of the Republic wishes to attract figures from the French left and right to the head of the ministries. Objective, to convince with this new government, around forty deputies from right and left, to join the presidential majority in the National Assembly.
This is a particularly important interview for Emmanuel Macron. The president spoke at length with Elisabeth Borne last night. The Prime Minister presented to him the conclusions of her consultations with the other political parties.
Figures from the right
A meeting which should make it possible to prepare for the reshuffle which is to take place on Monday or Tuesday, according to spokesperson Olivia Grégoire, just before Elisabeth Borne’s general policy speech on Wednesday. Objective for the President of the Republic and the government, to enlarge the majority. Because with 250 deputies, the presidential majority needs 40 additional deputies to have an absolute majority and validate its government.
So, one by one, Emmanuel Macron hopes to convince the deputies to join him and for that, he is betting everything on his reshuffle by seeking emblematic personalities on the right. Christelle Morançais, president of Pays de la Loire or Jean Rottner, president of Grand Est, are regularly cited.
Regain control
Because these local elected officials can bring dozens of Republican deputies in their suitcases. The left is not left out either, since the same strategy would be applied, trying to convince socialists or environmentalists like Arnaud Montebourg or Yannick Jadot.
Finally, Emmanuel Macron wants to prove that he has regained control since his failure in the legislative elections by succeeding in his bet to widen his majority with grips on the left and on the right.
