Several names of female politicians have circulated in recent days to succeed Jean Castex as Prime Minister. A name comes up with insistence, that of Catherine Vautrin, a close friend of Nicolas Sarkozy, former minister of Jacques Chirac, opponent of Marriage for All and president of the urban community of Greater Reims.

The redesign is imminent. Prime Minister Jean Castex is preparing to leave Matignon but is still awaiting Emmanuel Macron’s decision. A name is more and more cited, that of Catherine Vautrin, a woman from the Republicans who has supported the head of state since last February.

A person attached to the social question

Catherine Vautrin, 61, is currently the president of the Greater Reims urban community. A profile that could tick a number of boxes for Emmanuel Macron as this one is relatively similar to that of Jean Castex, in some respects. A local elected representative, on the right, little known, who has a long experience: three mandates as deputy of the Marne, secretary of state then former minister of Jacques Chirac…

Several subjects are close to his heart: integration and equal opportunities, help for the elderly, social cohesion and parity. In 2007, she launched 3919, the one-stop number for women victims of domestic violence. A CV imbued with the social question, one of the requirements set by the President of the Republic to approach this second five-year term.

But one point makes some relatives of Emmanuel Macron wince: in 2013, Catherine Vautrin positioned herself against Marriage for All and participated in the Manif pour Tous.
