The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin was the guest this Sunday of the Grand Rendez-vous Europe 1 / CNews / Les Echos. Asked about his immigration bill presented next year, Gérald Darmanin assures him: residence permits for jobs in tension “are not regularizations”.
It is one of the major bills of the year 2023. This week, the Minister of the Interior presented the main lines of his new immigration bill, which should be debated from the beginning of next year at the Parliament. In less than 40 years, this new immigration law will be the 21st bill on the subject. Among the measures proposed, the creation of a residence permit for jobs in tension, like the world of construction.
On the set of the Grand Rendez-vous d’Europe 1/CNews/The echoes, Gérald Darmanin assures us: the creation of a residence permit for jobs in tension “will not be regularization”. An assertion which responds to the many criticisms of the opposition, in particular of the National Rally, on the subject.
Questioning our capacity for integration
“Why not put time limits on the territory” for people with this type of residence permit, explains the Minister of the Interior at the microphone of Europe 1, stressing that the debate on the outline of this bill remains open. But the former Minister of Public Accounts underlines it: “To succeed in a good migration policy, two things are needed: a person who wants to integrate and that the country has enough capacity for integration”.
“What are our integration capacities today”, wonders the Minister of the Interior. For the latter, among the levers of integration, work is largely taken into account. But Gérald Darmanin does not forget what seems essential to him: learning the French language.
“Today, what is compulsory is to take French lessons when you migrate. Tomorrow, with our reform, you will have to pass the French exam to obtain your residence permit. Otherwise, there is no will not have a residence permit”, he announces, regretting that today “that a quarter of people in a regular situation on the territory, do not speak French well”. But Gérald Darmanin concludes: “we are not proposing regularization with this reform, it is even quite the opposite”.
