The debate on immigration wanted by the executive begins this Tuesday in the National Assembly. Extensive discussion prior to the presentation of a bill early next year. This notably provides for accelerating deportation procedures and the creation of a residence permit for shortage occupations.
The highly inflammable subject of immigration lands on the benches of the Assembly. The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, will be present this Tuesday in the hemicycle to open the debate on the subject while a bill must be presented at the beginning of next year. The acceleration of deportation procedures and the creation of a residence permit for shortage occupations will be part of the provisions submitted to parliamentarians.
In any case, the government considers that the subject deserves such a debate. He officially wants to give the floor to the Assembly to change the bill when the text was already almost tied up at the end of the summer. Nevertheless, the recent announcement of the creation of this famous residence permit for jobs in tension has angered the Republicans and the FN. Which denounce a massive plan of regularization which would concern, according to the executive, a few tens of thousands of illegal workers.
Better execution of OQTFs
For the moment, the government’s proposals aim to “better welcome immigrants who are destined to stay thanks to work and mastery of French and to better deport those who must be by concentrating efforts on foreigners in the origin of disturbances to public order”.
The executive is thus seeking to curb the overrepresentation of foreigners in acts of delinquency, particularly in large cities. It also intends to increase the rate of execution of obligations to leave the territory, which has stood between 5 and 15% since 2017. A rate deemed too low by right-wing opposition and far too far from the objective of 100% of execution of these OQTFs announced by Emmanuel Macron in 2019.
