Resident Evil 2 Remake was a masterpiece in itself. But this excellent mod intends to strike a chord with nostalgic people, and does so with enormous panache!
Modder alphaZomega has scoured the entirety of Resident Evil 2 Remake to make this colossal project possible. The least we can say is that this titanic work deserves a hug from Mr.X. Exploration of the mod, camera in hand.
Resident Evil 2 Remake: Classic Edition
Released in 2019, Resident Evil 2 Remake completely relaunched Capcom’s cult franchise. By integrating the gameplay of the excellent Resident Evil 4 into this much-loved title, the game has allowed us to rediscover a PlayStation classic. Speaking of classic, that’s precisely what interests us here. A mod aptly called RE2R Classic was indeed deployed yesterday and generated enormous excitement among fans.
As its name suggests, this alphaZomega project makes us re(re?)discover the Remake in the style of the cult titles of the time. By that, mean a game cut into shots with fixed camera angles. You will agree, however, that it is difficult to aim for TPS in this situation. The modder has thought of everything and integrated automatic aiming. The camera can also adapt to face the enemy you are targeting. For a tailor-made experience, it is even possible to adjust the camera yourself according to your preferences.
The new best old way to play Remake?
For those who have never played the original Resident Evil on PlayStation, a little context around the mod is in order. In the first three numbered opuses (but also 0 and Code Veronica, among others), Capcom had adopted fixed plans in each area to explore. On the one hand, this made it possible not to make the Sony console cough too much. On the other hand, it offered a constant feeling of claustrophobia. Worse still, certain camera angles completely hid a very present threat, making itself known only through terrifying noises.
This way of representing the games has clearly contributed to the iconic character of the franchise. This impressive work by a single modder on Resident Evil 2 Remake therefore commands respect. It thus allows veterans to reconnect with the original experience, and newcomers to taste the original horror of Capcom. A real tour de force from alphaZomega.
