“Resident Evil” has started on Netflix. The live-action horror series based on the popular games wants to make it easy for fans and newcomers to the zombie universe. So while the video games provide the background and inspiration for the show, Netflix’s “Resident Evil” also plays after all games – and the T-virus will only really appear in 2022 and cause deaths.

Nevertheless, a number of viewers have recognized a huge logic hole in the new series. Lance Reddick plays Dr. Albert Wesker, Jade and Billie’s father. However, in the video game series, Wesker passed away in 2009 (at the end of “Resident Evil 5”).

Here Wesker falls into a volcano – and on top of that dies from a huge explosion.

But how can the iconic antagonist still be alive in 2022 – at the time of the Netflix series “Resident Evil”?

Wesker actor Lance Reddick now took on this supposed logic hole in an interview with the US site TVLine. And the answer is relatively simple.

The original, super-bad Albert Wesker hardly appears in the Netflix series. Rather, this Wesker cloned himself in 2005 (as also shown in a flashback in Episode 7 of the Netflix series). This resulted in the clones Albert, Bert and Alby, all of whom are much more agreeable contemporaries than their creator.

The “Clone Albert” is then the Wesker that viewers get to know on Netflix.

Actor Lance Reddick then explains Wesker’s logic behind the cloning. “When I’m great, it’s better to have more of me. That way I could make more scientific breakthroughs faster,” said the ‘Resident Evil’ star of the thought process of the character he plays.

The original Wesker was also “a complete megalomaniac and a pure psychopath.” He doesn’t plan to “change the world, he wants to rule the world.”
