Resident Evil Village multiplayer RE:Verse struggles to find its audience

Some stories seem written in advance, like that of RE:Paythe multiplayer mode of Resident Evil Village, supposed to accompany the release of the latter. Unfortunately, Capcom decided to postpone its arrival, without further details, until October 28, the release date of the Winters’ Expansion, a substantial DLC. An unfortunate choice, when everyone had forgotten even the existence of RE:Pay. The result was predictable.

The numbers speak for themselves

This is a topic we recently covered in our review of RE:Paythe interest of a multiplayer mode in a game like Resident Evil Villageor before him Resident Evil 3 Remake, remains questionable. Admittedly, that was the norm ten years ago, when it was still synonymous with longer life, and those terms still meant something. But when the game does not lend itself to it, it is perhaps necessary to know how to forget this aspect, at the risk of disappointing some.

Because indeed, things are not going well on the side of RE:Pay. Just available for six days, this mode only accommodates on average 350 players at the same time on Steamagainst nearly 5,000 for Resident Evil Village. A very sad observation, when we know that this multiplayer mode is included as standard with the eighth installment of the Capcom saga, having found more than six million takers. It must be said, unfortunately, that this mode arrives a little late, and is not very exciting… We refer you to our opinion.
