Residents angry – Aggressive light costs community 50,000 euros

“Aggressive light” is now costing the municipality of Bad Vigaun dearly: after protests from residents, the local boss Friedrich Holztrattner is now having the lamps replaced – for a whopping 50,000 euros. “We want to relieve the burden on people,” said the mayor.

Soccer games and training sessions on the well-tended artificial turf in Bad Vigaun are popular. So popular that they are now also of concern to the community: the steadily growing popularity has long since met with more than just approval. Mayor Friedrich Holztrattner (ÖVP) knows that residents of the square are increasingly fed up with the “aggressive light” of the sports facility. And that, although the soccer field has actually been there since 2002. “There have always been discussions about noise and light between the residents and the football club,” says the local manager. But now it has become too much for some: “The activities have simply increased over the years, the complaints have increased,” says Holztrattner. Because in addition to the UFC Bad Vigaun, other teams are now using the space. This is exactly what the community is now doing: The lights on the existing four masts are to be replaced – in future LED lights are only to illuminate the space itself. Cost: a whopping 50,000 euros, the municipal council has already approved the project. A local electrical company is scheduled to install the lamps by June. “We want to relieve people and ensure agreement,” says Holztrattner. It is not the first project for the community: the lights on the tennis court have already been replaced.
