High jumper Loïc Gasch resigns after Thursday’s performance at Weltklasse Zürich.
The home meeting in the Letzigrund will be Loïc Gasch’s last appearance on the big athletics stage. The Romand only resigns at the age of 29.
Gasch repeatedly had to struggle with health setbacks. Injuries, especially to the ankle and back, bothered him.
“The decision is difficult for me. But I realize that I am no longer able to reach my highest level and keep improving. In the past 12 months I have never been 100% fit. As a result, the joy in training is no longer the same, »Gasch is quoted in a communiqué.
Set new standards
At the European Championship 2018 in Berlin, Gasch advanced straight into the final at his premiere on a continental event. In 2020 he jumped over 2.30 m for the first time in Aarau, in 2021 he improved the Swiss outdoor record to 2.33 m in Lausanne.
Thanks to this performance, among other things, Gasch managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He experienced his career highlight in March 2022 with the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
