The former mayor of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, Yannick Morez, spoke before the Senate law commission on Wednesday. He confided in the lack of state support and accuses the Loire-Atlantique prefecture of lying.
The former mayor of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, Yannick Morez, was harassed for months by a far-right collective opposed to the installation of a reception center for asylum seekers. This Tuesday, he spoke to the Senate Law Commission and returned to the reasons which led him to throw in the towel.
“Always the same answer”
For several months, the resigning mayor received numerous pressures from the far-right collective, in particular on the Riposte Laïque site. But he was not the only one to receive this intimidation: the headmistress of the school and the president of the parents’ association were also threatened.
“Of course, we alerted the gendarmerie by asking them what they could do. And the answer, you will repeat it to yourself very often, was always freedom of expression”, explains the former city councilor.
The mayor also received a leaflet two weeks apart in his personal mailbox to “show that he knew where I lived”, underlines Yannick Morez. “Of course, we sent this to the gendarmerie. Always the same answer. Freedom of expression. But I am writing a letter to the prefect in fact asking for state support. , distraught.
