Result scarf for life 2019: a new record!

When we found out at the end of last year what the Save the Children and BRIGITTE campaign "A scarf for life" had brought, we could not believe it at first – and then we were delighted: You, the readers, had around 380,000 euros * donated to Syrian refugee children. This is a new record – and an expression of an unbroken level of empathy and willingness to help, for which we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

By the end of December, around 24,500 wool packages had been sold, as well as more than 2,700 knitted scarves. To this end, direct donations of over 100,000 euros were received by our partner organization Save the Children, the world's largest independent children's rights organization. It has never been so much in the six years since we launched the campaign!

"We are very grateful for the many supporters this year and look forward to the great solidarity for the Syrian children," said Susanna Krüger, CEO of Save the Children Germany. "We cannot stop the war, but we can give Syrian girls and boys a future."

Glimmer of hope for the children

We were moved by the many very personal messages from you, dear readers. We knitted together, for family and friends, sometimes for the dog. There are scarf fans who even order two packages of wool – because then they can knit the scarf twice as big.

Your commitment is a glimmer of hope for the children. Their situation is becoming increasingly unbearable – in refugee countries like Lebanon, where they are increasingly undesirable, and in Syria itself, where they have to make do as displaced people. Among other things, the donations ensure that they can go to school again. This is particularly important in north-east and north-west Syria, where the situation is deteriorating dramatically. There are already 2.1 million children out of school, and another 1.3 million children are unsure whether they can continue to be taught. The supply situation is also becoming increasingly critical. Many children can already be clearly seen that they are chronically malnourished, they are too small for their age and look weak. You help to alleviate all this suffering with your commitment. Thank you!
