Result to forget – This time the “Air Ayodeji” only flew “short distances”

You have to go back a long way in the statistics to find a result like the one delivered by long jumper Tosin Ayodeji at the meeting in Wollerau (Sz) on Sunday. The footman, whose personal best has been 7.71 meters since August 2020, landed his only valid attempt at 6.13 meters at the “summer festival”.

The EYOF winner from 2019 last jumped exactly “short” more than four years ago on April 14, 2018 in Aulendorf (D). At that time, the foot acher was just 15 years old. So it’s no wonder that Tosin would have preferred to have his result in Switzerland deleted from the result lists. However, the bare numbers are a bit deceptive, as coach Sven Benning reports: “Tosin actually ran through the only valid attempt. The other five attempts were just over, but otherwise really good.” According to Benning, “good” means within an – estimated – range of 7.5 meters. “The important thing is that Tosin feels better about jumping after the difficult season and comes to the board with more punch.” Certainly the general conditions in Wollerau were not ideal either. “Tosin normally runs from 42 meters – there only 39 meters were possible,” says Benning, who is hoping for a successful season finale for his protégé. “He noticed that it was working again. Now it’s time to show another good performance at the Austrian U20 Championships on September 10th in Götzis.”
