Results of the legislative elections: a disaster scenario and a slap in the face for Emmanuel Macron

It’s an election night with a taste of defeat for Macronie. An evening marked unsurprisingly by record abstention between 53.5 and 54%, up one point from last Sunday. But above all, a failure, because if the presidential formation Together! arrives at the head of the second round of the legislative elections, it does not however obtain the absolute majority of 289 seats.

It’s a slap in the face for Emmanuel Macron, who last week tried to mobilize voters on the tarmac at Orly airport before his trip to Ukraine. With 245 seats obtained instead of the 289 necessary to have an absolute majority in the National Assembly, the result of the second round of the legislative elections is the worst scenario for Emmanuel Macron.

A historic defeat

Behind the scenes, no one had imagined such a scenario. In the last hours of the campaign on Friday, each prefecture had raised its forecasts. According to information from Europe 1, Together! should have obtained an absolute majority with 299 seats.

The polling institutes were less optimistic but they predicted that in the worst case, the camp of Emmanuel Macon would obtain a minimum of 265 seats. Sunday evening, the presidential coalition obtained only 245. A very weakened majority and a president who sees several of his relatives eliminated.

Present since the very beginning of the En Marche! adventure, the President of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand, lost by 800 votes in his constituency of Finistère, beaten by a candidate from the Left Alliance. A surprise defeat also for one of his most loyal lieutenants, until now patron of the En Marche deputies! in the Assembly: Christophe Castaner, who also arrived behind Nupes with 48% of the vote. A world collapsing into macronie.

Sunday evening, the head of state called his two companions from the start. For them, as for him, nothing will be like before.
