Results of three summits – EU approves solidarity fund for Ukraine – News

Heads of state and government met yesterday in Brussels in three different configurations – NATO, G7, European Council – to discuss how Russia can continue to be isolated internationally because of the attack on Ukraine.

Demonstrating unity between Europe and the USA was also the top priority at the meeting between the US President and the 27 EU heads of state and government. For the first time ever, a US President attended a regular EU summit. There was a handshake by EU Council President Charles Michel. “We stand together in these difficult times,” emphasized Michel in greeting.

Donor conference planned for Ukraine

The West must show unity. US President Joe Biden emphasized that these are anything but empty words. The meeting decided to create a solidarity fund for post-war reconstruction of a democratic Ukraine. This war, imposed by Russia, is costing Ukraine billions. The EU invites all international partners to support it. A donor conference should be convened as soon as possible.

The fund is designed to ensure the functioning of the Ukrainian authorities, defense efforts and emergency relief to the civilian population. Under the current circumstances, the country is unable to raise money on the international financial market.
