Retirement age 65 for women is often already a reality

What sounds like a novelty in the vote on the AHV is already a reality in some places in occupational pensions: the normal retirement age of 65 for women and men. This is legal – as long as those affected have enough non-mandatory capital.

Unclear prospects for the future of retirement provision.

Should women have the same normal retirement age as men in the future? This is the main contentious issue of the AHV reform, which will be put to the vote at the end of next week with the proposed increase in the retirement age for women from 64 to 65. Little is known, however, that the retirement age of 65 for women has already been reached in many places in the second pillar of old-age provision (occupational provision via pension funds). According to the recent industry survey from Swisscanto, this currently applies to 36 percent of private-law pension funds and even 62 percent of public-law funds. These shares have steadily increased somewhat (cf. chart).
