From this Wednesday, February 9, more than 200,000 farmers’ spouses will see their retirement pension increase by 70 euros on average, according to the government.
This revaluation, which entered into force on January 1, 2022, has been effective since February 9, 2022, the date of payment of pensions by the Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA) for the month of January. “This upgrading is above all the recognition of the work of these women and men who feed the French people.»rejoiced Julien Denormandie, Minister of Agriculture and Food, in a press release.
The text of the law, promulgated on December 17, 2021, was carried by André Chassaigne, the leader of the Communist deputies in the National Assembly. It provides a boost for more than 200,000 retirees, spouses and family helpers of farmers. On average, collaborating spouses received 604 euros per month when they validated 150 semesters.
Mainly affected women
The measure is mainly aimed at the spouses of former farm managers, i.e. more than 120,000 former land workers. 30% of them saw their retirement increase by more than 100 euros. “It is, in particular, a strong measure of justice towards many women who have worked all their lives alongside their farming spouse and the sign of the country’s recognition for their work.»emphasizes the Secretary of State for Pensions, Laurent Pietraszewski.
The increase in pensions for spouses comes on top of the law of July 3, 2020 aimed at increasing the retirement pensions of the most vulnerable farmers. Former operators with a full career have seen their minimum pension reassessed to 85% of the net minimum wage (about 1,035 euros monthly), against 75% previously.
