  • The return traffic caused a long traffic jam in front of the Gotthard road tunnel at the end of the ascension weekend.
  • The vehicles were queued up in front of the south portal over a length of 15 kilometers in the early evening.

This meant that drivers on the Gotthard took over two hours longer than usual for the motorway section between Faido and Airolo in Ticino, as reported by the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) and Viasuisse. The traffic jam grew quickly in the morning.
