Yes, you heard that right: Finally there is a new eyeshadow trend on the make-up horizon! This look has taken social media by storm. And rightly so – because it makes us look glamorous and sexy. It’s so easy to recreate the make-up look.

Yay! Finally there is a make-up look for everyone who prefers to avoid the paint pot when it comes to eyeshadow. We already know and love smokey eyes. The Reverse Cat Eyes now turn our favorite look upside down: The dark eyeshadow is not applied to the eyelid but to the lower lash line and thus differs from the traditional look.

Reverse Cat Eyes – He Started the Trend!

Makeup artist Spencer (@paintedbyspencer) recently started the trend on TikTok. Since then, thousands of users have been applying the iconic look that we have often seen on Kim Kardashian. But the first look at the video is shocking: Spencer starts right away with a thick, black line under his eye! Maybe that’s why over two million people clicked his video – just to see what was to become of this supposed false start.

Face-lift included

We love the cat eye shape for several reasons: Because it not only visually enlarges our eyes, by emphasizing the lower lash line, the make-up trend also cheats us into an almond-like eye shape á la Gigi Hadid. Another plus: the cat-eye technology visually lifts our eye area – because the eyeshadow is blended upwards towards the temples, which leads to an immediate lifting effect.

Preparation is everything

For the perfect “reverse cat eye” look, you should first prepare your eyelid and lower lash line with an eye shadow primer or concealer. Simply apply generously and work into the skin. Then fix your base with a little powder – so the make-up look stays in place for a longer period of time.

Step by step to the trend look

Now take a beveled eyeliner brush and use it in a medium brown eyeshadow of your choice. Tap the brush well so that you don’t take up too much product. Then you press the color very close to your lower lash line. It is best to start in the middle and slowly work your way up to the outer corner of your eye, following the natural shape of your waterline. When you reach the outer eyelid, you now lead the line a little further upwards, similar to if you were to draw an eyeliner.

Veneering is the most important step towards a perfect finish

Now use a very small, tapered brush to blend in the still hard black line on the lower lash line. In windshield wiper movements you go over the line just drawn. If too much color is lost during the blending process, repeat the previous step and build up the color until you are satisfied with the intensity.

This trick visually changes the shape of your eyes

The interior angles must not be neglected when applying makeup. Because only the emphasis on the small point in the inner corner of the eye leads to the desired cat-eye effect. The best way to do this is to use a brown, waterproof kohl pencil. Here, too, you simply follow your natural lash line with the kohl and carefully feel your way to the right shape. A Q tip is your best friend! Soaks the cotton swab in make-up remover and mends any mistakes.

The look is intensified with kohl or eyeliner

If you prefer a very dramatic look, you can still use black kohl or gel eyeliner. To do this, roughly apply the product to the lower and upper water line. The more you spread the product over a large area, the more intense the look will be.

Don’t forget the crease

A gentle definition of the crease of the eyelid should not be missing in this make-up look. This is done quickly with a fluffy brush and light brown eyeshadow. To do this, apply and blend the eyeshadow as usual. Finally add mascara and voilá – the Reverse Cat Eyes are ready!
