The SRF commentator duo Oliver Sittler and Marc Surer look back on the 2022 Formula 1 season.

After 22 races, the Formula 1 season is history. An outstanding Max Verstappen was already crowned champion with 4 races to go and didn’t miss a beat with his 15th win of the season in Abu Dhabi. In a season with completely new cars and revised regulations, however, numerous other stories were also written.

The Mercedes season was a surprise for SRF commentator Oliver Sittler. Toto Wolff’s team disappointed for a long time and struggled with a “bouncy” car. Only at the penultimate Grand Prix did the double leap of joy followed, George Russell celebrated his first career victory ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Alfa Romeo beats Alpha Tauri

AlphaTauri barely got going, for SRF expert Marc Surer the disappointment of the season: «AlphaTauri wanted to finish 6th in the Constructors’ World Championship, Alfa Romeo is there now. Despite working with Red Bull, the strongest team, they build the second weakest car in the field,” said the former racing driver.

Why is Sittler disappointed with Ferrari’s performance? And why did Surer’s heart “stand still” for a moment at Silverstone? Find out in the video above.
