For more than ten years and Strong Worldfeature films One Piece continued to gain momentum, while the worldwide success of Eiichirō Oda’s work only grew. To the extent that Stampede even allowed himself a revelation concerning the last island, laugh taleahead of the manga, in addition to being a hell of a mess playing the card of the fan service. Three years later, the Toei-Animation put the cover back with One Piece Film REDwhose simple title in reference to Red Shanks has immediately hype aficionados. However, the trailers could be perplexing, depicting a concert with a certain Utaan entirely new central character, referred to as the daughter of Shanks and created by the master himself, featuring the latter’s songs and an abundance of familiar faces. In the end, we didn’t really know what to expect when we went to our session and we came out of it with stars in our eyes, music in our heads and a certain euphoria not far from equaling the discovery of the famous moment “He laughed”. It should also be noted that we have seen the film in VOSTFR, which we strongly recommend both the voice of the singer teen is incredible, although we remain curious to find out in the future what gives the performance of Hoshi. Obviously, no spoilers apart from the elements shown during the promotion in the following lines and we strongly advise you to flee social networks if it is not already too late.

One Piece Film RED is an experience to live imperatively at least once in the cinema with a quality sound installation, because just like the characters in the film, we literally live a concert for 1h55, or rather a musical in which the star is none other thanUta, even a melodrama taking into account the themes addressed. Without saying too much, all the action therefore takes place in the realm ofElegia where is organized the first concert ofUtawho became the darling of the whole world via her performances by Den Den Mushi (Escargophone). Inevitably, theStraw Hat Crew of Luffy is on hand to take advantage of it, but also other hackers with not all so benevolent intentions, including some well-known ones, as well as members of the World Government and some Marine. But although all this beautiful cast has its part to play, it is Uta who leads the dance throughout with his multiple songs, composed by a variety of Japanese artists including Hiroyuki Sawano, each more heady than the other and whose lyrics are intimately linked to what the film wants to tell us. We knew some of them broadcast before the release, and not just a little by having listened to them on a loop, but that does not preventonce placed in their context and with the grandiose staging that accompanies them, the pleasure was intact, even amplified. Small flat however with regard to certain transitions between Kaori Nazuka and teen, where the change of voice between speaking and singing is surprising. A necessary evil to allow the two young women to give free rein to their talent in their respective fields, delivering performances worthy of their character, much more ambivalent than it seems at first glance.
To the big question that burned the lips of some, we will simply answer the following: Shanks does not appear only to make up the numbers and his treatment, as well as that of his crew, has against all hope fully contributed to our appreciation of the film. Although not being not canon with the frame of the work, the plot holds together and has not shaken our suspension of disbelief, the power of the antagonist lending itself rather well to certain delusions on the screen. Various elements of lore already known are reused to advance the story effectively, with very pleasant new interactions, even placing a few touches of humor acting as a breather, including running gags making you smile, like the classics with Sanji, Zoro and brook. The tone is still quite serious overall. And once again, some exclusive information is distilled here and there to tickle our curiosity. The Toei does not however lose the north and has made sure to place elements whose only interest is merchandising, let’s face it, in particular a change of outfit occurring for no real reason at the end if not to sell of the figure. And our heroes in all this? Rest assured, Luffy and all the crew members are entitled to their quarter of an hour of glorysome being even better respected compared to their treatment in the arc of the Wa country (big thought for God Usopp).
In terms of visuals, what you have to remember is that we take full view. Certainly, a few shots here and there would have deserved more care (we were moreover close to the screen), but nothing that came to spoil our pleasure. The key sequences make up for the few imperfectionsstarting with the first songs ofUtabenefiting from effects that completely immersed us in his world. Hatsune Miku can clearly go get dressed. The artists let loose and it shows. The final bouquet, during which it is clearly not necessary to blink to not miss anything, includes some sakuga simply stunning that do honor to one of the most memorable passages of the anime. Yes, clearly, fans will talk about it for a long time as the intensity of the scene transcends what we have been used to. Even the slightly “too much” side goes like a letter in the mail here, whereas this is not the case when the Toei believes in dragonball with the series adding auras and sound effects to everything, the advantage of being here on an original production rather than an adaptation.
By the way, stick around until the end of the credits, not that the post-credit scene is anything amazing, but rather because the visuals swiped all the way through are sure to delight fans, especially longtime ones. remembering most of the characters. On this subject, the non-appearance of certain sizes, even in simple cameo in this way, strangely surprised us, but it is ultimately not worse. A clever mix in short, which knows how to treat us without overdoing it.
