Rhône 40 car fires on the night of July 13 to 14

Like fireworks, parades and firefighters’ balls, vehicle fires have unfortunately become a July 14 tradition. Thus, in the Rhône department, at least forty cars were set on fire overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

This is a little less than last year when 51 vehicles were engulfed in flames on the night of July 13 to 14. Around 40 garbage cans were also set on fire.

Be on the look-out

Several hundred police and firefighters are mobilized, this year again, in the Lyon conurbation, for the nights of July 13 to 15, in order to better prevent disturbances to public order.

Like last year, the evening preceding July 14 was punctuated by the first incidents with, shortly before 11 p.m., the first throwing of projectiles at the police, firing of fireworks and trash fires in East Lyon (Vaulx-en-Velin, Saint-Priest or even Villeurbanne) and in Lyon 8th. According to information from Le Progrès, around fifteen people were arrested throughout the night.

This evening again, the Prefecture will remain on its guard: “We are sufficiently numerous and agile to intervene quickly in any sector”.
