Riber: new order for a production machine in Asia – 06/27/2022 at 08:45

(AOF) – Riber has received an order for a multi-4” production system, model MBE 49 with gas sources.”This machine is intended for opto-electronic and microwave applications, in particular for the growth of lasers at 1.3 µm quantum dots (QD) for the next generation of data transmission and telecommunications devices,” said the world leader in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) equipment for the semiconductor industry.

According to the Bezons group, the new generation of data transmission devices requires very high precision in the control of the epitaxial growth process obtained by the recognized performance of the Riber machines, as well as by the sophistication of the machine’s control software.

The machine ordered will be delivered in 2023.

This new order consolidates Riber’s position as the world’s leading supplier of production MBE systems.

Japan’s strong ambitions

The Japanese government is seeking to revitalize its electronic chip industry, with the objective of tripling turnover in 2030 compared to 2020. The Japanese sector would then represent the equivalent of 100.3 billion euros, in a market rapidly growing worldwide. The SIA (Semiconductor Industry Association) considers that Japan represented only 10% of world production last year, behind the United States (47%) and South Korea (19%). However, the country dominated the world chip market with 51% of production at the end of the 1980s. The Taiwanese TSMC has already chosen to create a 7 billion dollar factory in Japan, in partnership with Sony. Half of it should be financed by public subsidies.
