Long time no see: “MacGyver” actor Richard Dean Anderson has once again made an official appearance – in Dortmund.

Actor Richard Dean Anderson (74) has been retired from TV since 2013. But now there was a reunion with the star of “MacGyver” and “Stargate”. At the German Film & Comic Con in Dortmund on May 4th and 5th he was available for interviews, selfies and autograph sessions.

From the mullet to long gray hair

Numerous stars from films and series were guests at the spring edition of the popular event on the exhibition grounds. Edward Furlong (46), Emily Rudd (31) and Peter Facinelli (50) were also announced. But with Richard Dean Anderson, the organizers presented the fans with a special treat. Because you rarely see him at events anymore. At the age of 74, he is obviously still doing great: laughing and significantly slimmer compared to previous appearances, the Hollywood star presented himself to his fans in a good mood. Of course, the signs of the times have not left the action hero unscathed. The former blonde with a mullet now has gray and longer hair that reaches his chin and a gray beard. In April 2023 he appeared at the Comic Con in Prague with a shorter hairstyle and a beard.

“What a beautiful day,” concluded the event in Dortmund in an Instagram post. There are also photos of happy fans who were able to get a photo with the actor. Because even 32 years after the end of “MacGyver,” his legendary 80s role is still unforgotten for many. There is Anderson himself doesn’t speak so well about this timeas he once revealed: “MacGyver meant seven years where I was literally in every single frame shot and had absolutely no life left.”

He made his last TV appearance in 2013

From 1985 to 1992, he played the main role in seven seasons as the resourceful MacGyver, who was able to free himself from any seemingly hopeless situation thanks to clever tricks. Even after that, the actor was still busy in the series business: From 1997 to 2007, Anderson played Colonel Jack O’Neill from “Stargate – Command SG-1” in 214 episodes. This was followed by further appearances as O’Neill in “Stargate Atlantis”, “Stargate Universe” and in the direct-to-DVD film “Stargate: Continuum”.

At the age of 63, he largely withdrew from show business eleven years ago. In 2013 he was last seen in a small role in the series “Apartment 23”. Since then, he has been primarily committed to environmental protection and has produced several documentaries to draw attention to the pollution of the earth.
