First major series role for “Pretty Woman” star
Richard Gere is finally going into series.

In the remake of the French series “Legends Bureau”: Richard Gere plays alongside Michael Fassbender in the spy thriller “The Agency”.
Richard Gere (74) is committing himself to a long-term series for the first time. As “The Hollywood Reporter” reports, the sex symbol of the 1980s and 90s has signed with “The Agency”. He is following high-profile colleagues. Michael Fassbender (47) will take on the lead role in the spy series. Jeffrey Wright (58), nominated for an Oscar for the first time this year for “American Fiction”, is also on board.
“The Agency” is a remake of the French series “Büro der Legenden” (2015-2020). “The Bureau” (international marketing title) ran in Germany for five seasons on RTL Crime and Joyn Plus+.
Richard Gere has so far avoided series
Richard Gere’s career peaked at a time when there was still a clear distinction between film and series. For Hollywood stars at that time, a performance on the small screen would have been a step backwards. Gere therefore avoided series engagements for a long time – even though the “Pretty Woman” star’s career had clearly gone downhill over the last 20 years.
An exception was the 2019 miniseries “MotherFatherSon”. He played one of the main roles in eight episodes. In addition, he had a few TV jobs as a voice actor, for example for “Freedom: A History of US” (2003) or as himself in “The Simpsons”.
“The Agency”: This is what the series with Richard Gere is about
The protagonist in “The Agency” is CIA man Martian, played by Michael Fassbender. After many years as an undercover agent, he is called to the London office of the American secret service. There he meets an old love and the romance blossoms anew.
“His career, his true identity and his mission are pitted against his heart, plunging both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage,” the official description reads. Richard Gere plays a character named Bosko, the head of the London office.
George Clooney is producing “The Agency” for Paramount+, and filming has just begun in London. A release date has not yet been set.
