Rick and Morty in anime: this is what the Japanese version will look like


A first trailer for the Rick and Morty anime has been released and here is what the upcoming series will look like…

It was during San Diego Comic-Con (via ComingSoon) that Adult Swim released the first teaser for Rick and Morty: The Anime which reveals what appears to be the show’s intro.

Similar to that of the original series, the mini trailer shows Rick and Morty going on a variety of different adventures as the credits play. The teaser also previews the show’s unique animation style, as well as teasing new looks for characters like Rick, Morty, Summer and more.

At the end of the video, you can also hear a little bit of the original theme music from the beloved series.

In a post after the trailer, Takashi Sano – who is directing the anime – addressed the fans, stating that he himself is a huge fan of rick and morty and that it promised to honor the series while adding “a unique Japanese touch” to it.

Here is the message in full:

Good morning. I’m Sano, the director of Rick and Morty: The Anime. And as a director, I’d like to assure you that I’m also a huge fan of Rick and Morty, the original. I believe there are a lot of Rick and Morty fans all over the world. And I’m truly honored to have been chosen to create a new Rick and Morty story from each of them. But with that honor comes a lot of pressure because the original is so well done. What I tried to accomplish in these 10 episodes is to take all my favorite parts of Rick and Morty, compress them to extract their essence, and then add a unique Japanese touch.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ANIME

Rick and Morty: The Anime will be presented in ten episodes directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God) so. The latter was also behind the two extremely popular anime shorts: Rick and Morty vs. Genocider And Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil) – who are probably big inspirations behind the development of the upcoming anime.

Besides those of Takashi SanoAdult Swim has previously released a variety of anime-style Rick and Morty shorts, including the very first, Samurai & Shogunin March 2020. A sequel was released in November 2020, followed by a third animated short based on the series, The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabarareleased in October 2021.

While waiting to be able to discover Rick and Morty: The Anime, the original series, which released its season 6 last month, can be found on Netflix.
