Rick and Morty: No AI voice from Justin Roiland! The new voice actors for Rick and Morty have been revealed

After “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland was infamously thrown out of the production, new voice actors for the main characters Rick and Morty were urgently needed. So far, both of these have been voiced by Roiland, as well as many other smaller roles in the successful cartoon “Rick and Morty”.

A trailer for season 7 of “Rick and Morty” already gave a foretaste of what the crazy grandpa-grandson duo will sound like in the original sound in the future. And the voices were so similar to Roiland’s that many fans suspected that an artificial intelligence was at work imitating Roiland.

But with the start of “Rick and Morty” Season 7, the big secret was finally revealed. The US magazine The Hollywood Reporter reports, that Rick will now be voiced by Ian Cardoni and Morty by Harry Belden. Both are newcomers and have only had smaller roles so far.

In an interview with THR, co-creator Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder revealed why they decided on two speakers instead of just one as before: On the one hand, the workload of two main roles for one speaker would have been very large. Roiland’s voice would have suffered greatly from the many years he spent voicing both Rick and Morty.

On the other hand, they wanted the fan experience to be interrupted by as few factors as possible. Two different speakers would have been more practical.

An intensive search for new speakers took place for six months; Harmon and Marder listened to thousands of auditions until they found the right voices. With the new cast, they expect many more seasons of “Rick and Morty” because Cardoni and Belden are young and very motivated. Good news for fans of the series!

Nothing changes for viewers who watch the series not in the original English language, but in the German dub. First of all, season 7 of “Rick and Morty” only starts in the original sound.
