Rick and Morty: the fired co-creator had not worked on the series for several years!

A few days after his dismissal, testimonies reveal that Justin Roiland had already not worked on the series “Rick and Morty” for several years!

If the reasons for his dismissal are not the subject of any discussion, many wondered what impact the departure of Justin Roiland will have on the next seasons of Rick and Morty. The co-creator of the animation program was indeed fired by Adult Swim, after the revelation of the accusations of domestic violence against him.

A survey conducted by our colleagues from HollywoodReporter nevertheless revealed that this departure of the co-creator of the series will have no real consequences on the quality of the next episodes of Rick and Morty and for good reason, since the latter no longer participated in the writing of the program… since season 2!

A falling out with the other co-creator of Rick and Morty Dan Harmon would be at the origin of this withdrawal of Justin Roiland. An attempted reconciliation orchestrated by Adult Swim management did not work out, but nonetheless secured the program’s renewal for 70 more episodes in 2018.

To subscribers absent since season 2

Justin Roiland’s attitude towards the screenwriters was the source of great tension. To the point that the latter simply decided to no longer participate in the writing of the program during season 2, contenting himself therefore to ensure only his work as a dubbing actor (he notably lends his voice to the two title heroes of series).

Same story on the side of his other series Solar Opposites on Hulu (which also announced his dismissal), while some scriptwriters of the program reveal to our American colleagues that they have never exchanged with Justin Roiland, “not even on Zoom”. Everything therefore suggests that Justin Roiland’s work in recent years has essentially consisted of capitalizing on his notoriety rather than truly working on his creations.

Adult Swim

His departure will therefore only have the impact of a change of voice for the heroes of Rick and Morty, in the original version of course. And while the adventures of the two heroes of the animated program will continue for several more years, the name of Justin Roiland seems, meanwhile, destined to be forgotten by the entertainment industry.

All six seasons of Rick and Morty are available now on Adult Swim (the first five seasons of the program are also available on Netflix).
